We escaped this past weekend from obligations and made our way to The Grand Canyon Railway Express to kick off the holidays. I had been wanting to take Brooke and Nora on the Polar Express Train for years and I'm so glad we finally made the time to do so. It was truly a magical trip and if you follow me on Instagram, you saw all our photos and videos of the kids having the time of their lives.
We hit the road and headed north into Arizona on Saturday, making sure we got off the 40 East to take Historic Route 66 into Peach Springs. We pretended the Subaru was number 95's red race car as we converged on the 2 lane road surrounded by red rock and cactus.
Besides seeing Santa and riding on the Polar Express, the girls had one very strong wish, to play in the snow. We headed up the local mountain, found snow and let the fun begin. They didn't care that it was more ice than snow, these kids still had a blast. They used sticks they found to build forts with their friends, slid across the patches of snow, and even pretended to climb Mount Everest.
Finally, it was our turn to hop on the Polar Express to the North Pole. The train ride did not disappoint. There was singing, hot chocolate, cookies, more singing, and Santa! Brooke and Nora belted out every tune at the top of their lungs. I wish I still looked at life the way a kid does with pure joy and excitement at all times
It was a short but memorable trip and I am so grateful we were able to do it. Taking time out of our busy lives be part of the holiday magic, was the perfect way to bond as a family and kick off the Christmas season. We hope you and yours also have time with the ones you love and we wish you all a very, Merry Christmas!
